Environmental protection

Mitas is committed to providing a clean, safe and healthy work environment for its employees.  To reach that goal, Mitas’ Charles City plant invited representatives of Iowa OSHA, the Department of Natural Resources and Charles City governmental agencies to tour the factory and inspect the operations. These visits allow Mitas to meet and exceed all relevant regulations pertaining to Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S). Additionally, Mitas employs a full time EH&S manager, provides in-depth EH&S orientation for new employees, has an active EH&S Committee composed entirely of hourly employees and actively participates in local, state and national EH&S groups such as the National Safety Council. Mitas is also dedicated to minimizing waste and recycling. To date, Mitas’ commitment has resulted in a superior safety record within the Tire Building industry and total compliance with all environmental regulations relating to air, water or ground pollution.  Mitas seeks to constantly improve its record by engaging with employees. Mitas utilizes monthly plant-wide employee meetings, an employee suggestions program and other reward programs to encourage participation and compliance. A safe, clean plant is not just an obligation for Mitas; it is expected behavior.
